About
Hi, I’m Darlene
Hating my body and wanting to change it is what got me into working out when I was in college. Not surprisingly, that didn’t go very well.
Hating myself and wishing for the “perfect” body, led to:
9 years of an eating disorder
Body dysmorphia
Obsession/rumination of food
Bouts of depression
Trying to “figure it out” on my own was NOT working. So finally, after hundreds of self help books, years of struggling and hardship, I invested in some serious therapy (3 month inpatient program).
Through this experience, I learned the energy you put in, is the energy you get out.
Meaning- if you hate your body now, no amount of exercising, starving yourself, and no shape or size will EVER lead you to the body you love.
You have to love yourself FIRST, then the rest will follow.
It took a lot of blood, sweat, tears and YEARS to learn how my body actually works (turns out starving yourself to lose weight isn’t sustainable… lol).
To realize weight lifting doesn’t make you “bulky” and actually leads to the body I wanted all along…
To realize I should have prioritized strength training over cardio to look more “fit”
To learn carbs are not evil and can actually help performance in workouts.
To learn I can love my body for where it is today AND still work on getting better.
